Day 4
4/28/10
Today we woke up and had a quick breakfast, then headed out for a morning workout. The walls were completely flat, so there was no ledge to grab on to for open turns. It was weird. Then we went to the mall to buy groceries and other necessities. On the way to the mall we noticed there are no traffic lights in Ireland only round-a-bouts, not to mention they drive on the wrong side of the road. It was weird how they had their grocery store right in the middle of their mall. We bought Lucozade (Irish Gatorade) and chicken flavored chips. . .they were not good. We then came back to the hotel, had lunch and relaxed until our afternoon workout. During our afternoon workout we just did a nice easy meet warm-up to get ourselves ready for tomorrow. We then came back to the hotel ate dinner, had a team meeting, then went to bed, excited for the meet to begin tomorrow.
Day 5 (First Day of Competition)
4/29/10
We woke up at around 6:30 A.M. Ireland time and then ate breakfast. Following this, we boarded the bus and headed to our first true day of competing. Janet swam the 100 back crawl (backstroke in Ireland), and a part of the bronze medaling 4x100 meter freestyle relay; Nick finaled in the 200 meter butterfly (finished seventh overall) and Chuck placed second overall in the 50 meter breaststroke and had a best time in the 100 backcrawl. Overall, the medal stands were full of American swimmers, including multiple 1,2,3 finishes. At the conclusion of the first day, we returned to the hotel and slept as if we had not traveled across the pond.
