Summer is just around the corner and the training focus is on our preparation for the long course racing schedule. April and May have already given opportunities for many of the swimmers to test their meters racing. Big congratulations goes out to Kaitlin Pawlowicz, who was selected to represent the USA National Youth Team in Vancouver at the Mel Zajac International Swim Meet. Kaitlin swam the 400 IM, 400 free and 200 Fly -- finishing 12th place in the 200 fly with a 2:17.35.
In addition to the local schedule of early summer meets, fifteen swimmers will attend the Santa Clara Grand Prix Invite in June and seven will travel to the World Team Championships Trials in Indianapolis, July 7-11. The club management team will be running the Potomac Valley Distance Meet in June and the combined Senior and Junior Championships in July at the University of Maryland. Our volunteer effort is critical to the success of these meets!
This summer, the team will look to support the first edition of the Age Group, "Far Eastern Championships" to be held at North Baltimore in August. At the senior/open level, the team will support both the Speedo Super Sectional in Buffalo and the USA Open and Junior Champs. With the opportunity to have our qualified swimmers racing through early August, the coaches feel great about having a racing schedule that will allow some family time before training resumes in late August/early September.
Finally, we will welcome Rick Curl and family back to the USA in June! Rick will spend the summer getting the team direction plotted for the seasons ahead. With no immediate plans to take a training group, Rick will have the opportunity to connect personally with all our training sites, coaches, swimmers, and parents! Exciting times are ahead for our club! Have a great summer season.
See you on deck!
Pete
